The Meaning Behind the Name

Sahana runs deeper than wellness.

Sahana β€” Sanskrit for patience, endurance, and the ability to bear β€” reflects the essence of true healing. In Ayurveda and natural medicine, lasting wellness is not achieved through quick fixes, but through patient, sustained nourishment of the body's tissues (dhatus) to build lasting resilience, restore vitality, and address dis-ease at its root rather than at the level of symptoms alone.

At Sahana Therapeutics, that is the only standard we work to. Every consultation begins with who you are constitutionally, not just what you are experiencing today.

Our Wellness Philosophy

"Ayurveda teaches us that wellness is not a one-size-fits-all. True healing comes from honoring our internal rhythms, aligning with the seasons, and understanding our unique natural biological constitution."

Integrating Eastern Wisdom with Western Life

My journey into natural medicine began long before I undertook formal training. Growing up, herbal remedies and traditional healing practices were a natural part of everyday life. My mother and grandmother relied on herbs and traditional wisdom to support the health and wellbeing of our family. These practices became deeply ingrained in my understanding of health. As a mother myself, I continued many of these traditions with my own children.

After migrating, I found myself navigating a different landscape of plants, remedies, and healthcare approaches. While I carried with me a rich foundation in Indigenous and Ayurvedic wisdom, I became increasingly curious about Māori and Western herbs that could offer similar therapeutic benefits. The curiosity sparked a deeper journey into the study of Eastern and Western herbal medicine and Rongoā Māori, allowing me to bridge the Eastern traditional knowledge with Western natural healthcare and traditional practices.

Like many people, I have also experienced periods of burnout, sleepless nights, stress, and feeling overwhelmed by life's demands. These experiences have deepened my empathy and strengthen my commitment to help others to find balance, resilience, and vitality.

Alongside my clinical training, my experience as a teacher has shaped the way I work with you. Education and empowerment are central to my approach. I believe understanding the body and health patterns, equip us to make meaningful and sustainable change.

My philosophy is simple: health is not merely the absence of illness but a dynamic state of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. I believe every individual is unique and deserves personalised care that honours their story, circumstances, and goals.

I aim to support the body's innate ability for healing while helping you build practical and sustainable habits for long term wellbeing.

"I'm so glad I decided to try those herbal remedies with you. Not just It helped immensely with my runny nose condition, I must say I felt better overall. I think it also helped regulate my bowel movements, and the schedule of remedies sort of made me drink lots of water so I stayed well hydrated (this helped me reduce the number of tea/coffee I took, which was added benefit 😊) Thanks again for introducing me to these natural remedies. I'm looking forward to our next consultation."

"After I started taking the herbs you provided me with, I started feeling much better within the first three days. Also I felt more energetic throughout the time I was taking the herbs and I think it also helped my acid reflux. I also get headaches sometimes due to gastric issues but throughout the treatment I did not see any headaches. So overall I think I felt so much better and I am still feeling better even though I have finished the herbs."
